Hey, welcome to my blog site!
Thanks to Nat and Stu from Crave design for getting the ball rolling with the sweet page design, Cheers!
Hey all just to give a bit of an update….apart from crackin boards bindings and bones I’ve been busy getting down to bussiness on snow in the last year. Based out of Queenstown was able to ride everyday the weather allowed havin a blast tearin round with the crew. I was lucky enough to be invited by snow photographer Miles Holden on a couple of shoots at The Remarkables and Coronet Peak to get pictures for Nzski.com marketing. This was great fun and an opportunity to ride with some rippin riders and skiers!
Travelled upto homebase Mt Ruapehu early september to compete at the Export Gold Extremes to have a crack at some Freeride World Tour points. Ol mate Benn Cash was patient enough to put me up for the week, and get me up to the hill in the mornings thanks Benny! Long story short tho I somehow took myself out the day before the comp and woke up staring at the sky with searing pain in my back, wondering what happened and why im coughing blood hmm..not good. Got outta there real fast n ended up getting shipped off in the whambulance to check for possible broken spine!! ahhh After getting the best all clear ever I was told to stay on the couch for a week then take it easy for a bit, along with some really awesome painkillers it was back to Owhango and straight to bed. Thanks to Sam, Lizette and Benn all three Cashes dealing with my broken ass that day! What a team! Next day got up real slow feeling like been hit by a bus and got ready to compete probably not the best idea but however… after inspection run decided pain is only temporary and nailed my line second run to take third place, alright!
Special thanks to Pete and Mary from the One Stop Ski Shop Owhango for their late night repairs and super slick wax jobs! Also the entire team at Whakapapa patrol and Taumarunui hospital! Cheers!
’10 northern hemisphere season has seen a relocation to freeride heaven Revelstoke BC Canada in search of endless pow and a good place to get in form for the Northface Masters tour. The Snowbird event saw a massive storm system roll through the entire week and a one run format be adopted on the last day, after getting points slammed for a buttcheck on an otherwise solid run ended up placing 39th out of a feild of 80 not bad considering a heavy list of riders but definately room for improvement(Story on home page). After Snowbird it was strait to Banff Alberta to make a mountaineering attempt on Cascade Mt with the primarly goal to ride the super gnar face back toward town(story on home page). The Northface Masters Crystal Mt stop was another wild trip and another disappointing result not quite making the cut for the final, but valuable experience gained. I learnt theres a difference between good riders and good competitors. Funds at this point brought a halt on my plans to complete the tour, next year should be good with experience and being better prepared finacially being key I think.
Was stoked to hear Ski&Snow Mag and Adventure Mag were super keen to publish my written material, unfortunately they need higher quality photos to publish, this is something I am working on and I have a new goal to get a story published this year.
The rest of this season has been alot of hiking, spotting and riding lines working on fluidity and having fun!
Back to work now building, conveiniently on the ski hill, earn some $$, get to New Zealand and do the Chill Big mountain series the Black Diamond Comp at Temple and of course Mt Ruapehu Export Gold Extremes. Be good to catch up with the home crew, see whats new, n definately have a few beers…
Check back for more updates… Cheers
Scotty
